Good News for new Harris Academy Project

Artist's impression of the new Harris Academy
Further to my update last night about City Council meetings, I have welcomed the unanimous approval of the new Harris Academy plans that took place at the City Council's Development Management Committee.

The new Harris Academy building is striking and innovative in design and will provide high quality 21st century facilities for the school community and for the wider West End community who will be able to make use of the school facilities - for example for leisure and night classes - when the new school opens in August 2016.

At last night's committee, I sought assurances that there would not be any detrimental effect for the immediately adjacent residents in the Perth Road area in terms of their residential amenity - for example noise, construction traffic and other vehicle parking and maneouvres - during the construction period.   This is an area I will be keeping a close eye on on behalf of constituents from commencement of the demolition and rebuilding project that will start at the end of the 2012/13 academic year at the end of June.
