Cappuccino Concert at the Wighton Heritage Centre

From Sheena Wellington :

Saturday 17th November at 11am (doors open 10.30am) at the Wighton Heritage Centre in the Central Library brings us the wonderful songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Alan Reid.

Founder member and mainstay of the internationally renowned Battlefield Band for more than 40 years, Alan was the first to use keyboards as an integral part of a traditional folk band. The depth of his melodic playing and punctuated rhythms have so defined Celtic music that his influence can be heard in many of today's younger generation of Celtic musicians.

Alan is also a prolific and fluid songwriter, his compositions full of imagery and stories of common folk and historical figures as well. As interesting and moving as the stories are, his musical compositions leave the listener with a strong, memorable and very singable melody.

Alan has a busy touring schedule, with stints in the USA, Germany and Australia in the past few months, so we are highly delighted that we can welcome him again.

Getting things done - flooding issue update #dundeewestend

Many residents have recently reported to me extensive flooding frequently around the bus stop on Perth Road opposite Riverside Place.   I highlighted this with an initial response from the council's Roads Maintenance Partnership at the end of last month.

I have now had a more substantive response from the Roads Maintenance Partnership's engineer who has been investigating the matter - this reads as follows :

"I have been on site ... with a colleague from Tayside Contracts and we are proposing to dig up and investigate the slow running gully at the bus stop.

We are also planning on installing slot drains, upsizing a nearby gully and will also carry out a minor surfacing repair to the carriageway.

This all combined should alleviate the flooding at this location.

Unfortunately due to the issue being located at Perth Road this is classed as traffic sensitive so we have to wait until the 3rd December before we can start the works.

In the meantime I will arrange for the gullies here to be cleaned and will continue to monitor the area until the works have been completed."

Getting things done - Seymour Street #dundeewestend

Residents recently complained to me about potholes on the road surface of Seymour Street towards its north end.

I raised this with the council's Roads Maintenance Partnership and have been advised as follows :

"A pothole repair order was raised ... with a timescale for repair of approximately thirty days."

Home-Start Dundee’s Annual Fundraiser

We are delighted to announce that Gleadhraich will be performing a fundraising gig with all proceeds coming to Home-Start Dundee.

Gleadhraich are a celtic rock band formed in Carnoustie in 2010 while students at school. The band is made up of Craig Weir (Bagpipes/ Vocals), Ross White (Guitar/ Vocals), Paul Weir (Percussion) and Graeme Ritchie (Bass Guitar) with a live addition of a backing band which includes saxophone, trombone, accordion, keyboard and fiddle. The band was made Angus’ Cultural Ambassadors for 2013/14.

At a Dundee performance in 2016 Gleadhraich welcomed Britain’s Got Talent winner, Jai McDowall and Bay City Roller’s onstage to play with the band as special guests.  The band has performed at a variety of events across the UK from headline shows to festival performances including at Scotland’s prestigious Belladrum Tartan Heart Festival. This has led to the band sharing stages with acts such as Skerryvore, Donnie Munro, Twin Atlantic, AC/DC, The Fratellis and Peatbog Faeries. Gleadhraich made their German debut with a successful mini tour in September 2015 and featured in France in January 2016.
