Temporary Traffic Order - Lower Pleasance

From the City Council :

Dundee City Council proposes to make an Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 for the purpose of facilitating Scottish and Southern Energy works.

The Order is expected to be in force for four weeks from 18 September 2024. Its maximum duration in terms of the Act is eighteen months.

The effect of the Order is to prohibit temporarily all vehicular traffic in Lower Pleasance from its junction with the residential car park entrance for a distance of 50 metres or thereby in a southerly direction.

An alternative route will be available via Lochee Road, Polepark Road, Brewery Lane and in reverse.

THE DUNDEE CITY COUNCIL AS TRAFFIC AUTHORITY being satisfied that traffic on the road should be prohibited by reason of City Fibre duct installation works being carried out HEREBY PROHIBIT the driving of any vehicle in :

+ Lower Pleasance (between Brewery Lane and Lochee Road)

+ Lower Pleasance (between Brewery Lane and Brook Street)

This notice comes into effect on Friday 14 October 2022 for 5 working days.

Pedestrian thoroughfare will be maintained. Only one section will be closed at any time.

Alternative routes for vehicles are available via Brewery Lane / Polepark Road / Lochee Road and Brewery Lane / Park Street / Douglas Street.

Getting things done - Lower Pleasance/Polepark Road car park #dundeewestend

Residents recently highlighted to me that at the tenants’ car park between Lower Pleasance and Polepark Road, a buddleia is starting to take over and will no doubt start to cause damage to the boundary wall if left to its own devices.

I raised this with the City Council and have been assured it will be passed to appropriate officers for attention.

Many thanks to the residents who contacted me earlier this month about damage to the wall at the residents' car park between Polepark Road and Lower Pleasance.

I reported this to Neighbourhood Services at the City Council and the Housing Support Officer has since responded as follows :

"(In response) to your enquiry sent 06/06/21 regarding the issue with the damaged wall at the car park adjacent to 45-65 Polepark Road ... a repair was logged on 08/06/21 to carrying out reinstatement work here.   This is shown as completed on our system 11/06/21 so the issue should now be resolved."

I have recently received several complaints from residents about the extent of graffiti in the Lower Pleasance area, some of which has offensive content.

I have raised this with the City Council’s Rapid Response Team requesting that it is removed.

This notice comes into effect on Wednesday 25 November 2020 for 1 day.

Alternative routes for vehicles are available via Douglas Street / Brook Street / Brewery Lane.

THE DUNDEE CITY COUNCIL AS TRAFFIC AUTHORITY being satisfied that traffic on the road should be prohibited by reason of Scottish Water iron work repairs  being carried out HEREBY PROHIBIT the entry to and exit from Lower Pleasance (at its junction with Lochee Road), Dundee.

This notice comes into effect on Sunday 26th July 2020 for one day.

Pedestrian thoroughfare will be maintained.

Alternative routes for vehicles are available via Lochee Road southbound, returning Lochee Road northbound/Polepark Road.

Polepark Road flats - back area

On a recent walkabout with the Community Spirit Action Group, we were concerned about the state of the flower bed areas at the back of the Polepark Road council flats situated in Lower Pleasance.      See photo below :

I took up the matter with the council's Neighbourhood Services Department and have since been advised as follows :

"   ... (we are) making arrangement to ensure the area is cleaned up as a matter of urgency and in addition is reviewing the maintenance schedule.

There is a tiredness with some of the planted area/fencing etc and we will include some of these restoration works within our capital proposal for later in the year."

Temporary Traffic Order - Forest Park Place, Edward Street, Brook Street, Brewery Lane, Lower Pleasance and Douglas Street

Dundee City Council proposes to make an Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 for the purpose of facilitating works for the Scottish and Southern Energy 33Kv Cable Installation Scheme.  The Order is expected to be in force for 7 weeks from 21st September 2015.  Its maximum duration in terms of the Act is eighteen months.

The effect of the Order is to prohibit temporarily all vehicular traffic in (1) Forest Park Place between Forest Park Road and Edward Street, (2) Edward Street between Brook Street and Forest Park Place, (3) Brook Street between Edward Street and Milnbank Road, (4) Brewery Lane between Brook Street and Lower Pleasance, (5) Lower Pleasance between Brewery Lane and Douglas Street, and (6) Douglas Street between Lower Pleasance and West Marketgait (Phase (i) – Lower Pleasance to West Hendersons Wynd, Phase (ii) – West Hendersons Wynd to Blinshall Street, Phase (iii) – Blinshall Street to Brown Street and Phase (iv) – Brown Street to West Marketgait).

The closures are planned to be on a rolling programme and proceed as follows: Forest Park Place, Edward Street, Brook Street, Brewery Lane, Lower Pleasance and Douglas Street.  More than one road may be closed at a time.  The terms of the one-way order relating to Douglas Street between Lower Pleasance and Brook Street will be revoked for the duration of this Order.

Alternative routes will be available via (1) Forest Park Road, Milnbank Road, Brook Street and Edward Street, (2) Forest Park Place, Forest Park Road and Milnbank Road, (3) Brook Street, Guthrie Street, Horsewater Wynd, Hawkhill, West Marketgait, Lochee Road and Polepark Road, (4) Polepark Road, Lochee Road and Park Street, (5) Brewery Lane and Park Street and (6) (i) Ash Street, Brewery Lane and Lower Pleasance, (ii) Blinshall Street, Lochee Road and Park Street, (iii) Brown Street, Miln Street and West Hendersons Wynd and (iv) Blinshall Street, Miln Street and Brown Street.

Path - Lower Pleasance to Polepark Road

Following my receiving residents' complaints about the unkempt state of the pathway that runs from Lower Pleasance to Polepark Road, just south of the Polepark play area (see below), I have asked the City Council's Environment Department to tidy it up:

I have also received an assurance from the Environment Department that the grass in the play park will be tidied regularly over the summer months, following a recent complaint about it being overgrown.

Street Lighting - Lower Pleasance/Douglas Street/Brewery Lane

Residents have complained to me that some of the street lighting at Lower Pleasance, Douglas Street and Brewery Lane is obscured by foliage from overgrown trees.   I took this up with the Street Lighting Partnership and have been advised :

We have looked at the various streets mentioned. There are some areas where the trees are obscuring the light.   We will get them cut back in the next couple of days.

The effect of the Order is to prohibit temporarily all vehicular traffic in Lower Pleasance from Brewery Lane to Douglas Street.

Pedestrian thoroughfare and vehicular access to premises will be maintained where possible.

An alternative route will be available via Brewery Lane, Park Street and Douglas Street.

Getting things done ... Pleasance Court - street lighting

I have received complaints from residents at Pleasance Court about the poor street lighting behind the housing at Lower Pleasance, due to overgrown trees.

I raised the matter with the City Council and the Forestry Section has responded as follows:

"I am writing to you to keep you up to date regarding your enquiry about trees located in the southern section of Lower Pleasance and the south side of Brewery Lane. As you are aware I had contacted City Development to ascertain if it held any responsibilities here, but it does not.   I also contacted the roads maintenance section asking if there was anything it could do to assist with the matter.    The department has since inspected the site and decided that due to the difficulty in determining ownership of all the derelict grounds upon which the offending trees are growing, it will - under public safety - issue an order to cut/prune back the offending trees.

I have now received this order of instruction to carry out the pruning works to prune from the lamp posts and prune back the overhanging branches to improve headroom for pedestrians and vehicles. 

I will programme this work into our current work schedule. I will arrange for the works to be carried out as soon as reasonably practicable."

A good result.

West End graffiti clean up

This morning, along with members of the Community Spirit Action Group, volunteers from Jericho House and Hillcrest Housing Association and City Council Communities Officer, Waste Management and two of my ward colleagues, I participated in another West End graffiti clean up.

At the last clean up, we concentrated on streets in the southern part of the West End, so today, we put our efforts into cleaning up graffiti in the northern part of the ward in Community's Spirit's coverage area, tackling graffiti in streets like Milnbank Road, Lower Pleasance and Rosefield Place.     Here's me in Lower Pleasance earlier this morning!
