Getting things done - Roseangle playpark #dundeewestend

We have recently received concerns about repairs needed at the Roseangle playpark.

As one resident advised :

"We were in Roseangle play park with my wee boy today, it is sadly in a bit of a state.

The wee train’s steering wheel and seat is gone, the zipline is broken again and a lot of the barriers around the swings are damaged.

I hope it can be fixed before the good weather is here, it would be great having every toy available for the kids to play with."

We raised this with the City Council's environment management and have received the following helpful response :

"Our playgrounds team will assess the damage to the wooden train and the barriers as mentioned in your email below. Thereafter required repairs will be scheduled as soon as possible.

We are currently awaiting delivery of a replacement zip line wire. Once this arrives from our supplier the playgrounds team will fit this bringing the play equipment back into use."

Getting things done - Bankmill Road to Rosefield Place #dundeewestend

Michael is pictured in the path from Bankmill Road to Rosefield Place where residents reported dumped foliage at the south end.

There's also some graffiti back on the wall to the west side of the path - disappointing as it was previously all removed at our request.

We raised both issues with our local environment manager who responded helpfully as follows :

"With regard to your below enquiry re Rosefield Place / Bankmill Road. I have contacted Construction Services requesting the graffiti on the wall to be painted over once more.

Our operatives will attend to remove the accumulation that has been dumped behind the railings at Rosefield Place.

It is likely that this will be addressed over a couple of visits in the coming days but we will uplift and remove."

Getting things done - Perth Road near Sinderins #dundeewestend

Residents recently contacted us about concerns around pedestrian safety crossing the slip road from Hawkhill to Perth Road near Sinderins, to the immediate west of the shops on the north side of Perth Road.

As one resident advised us :

"Many vehicles turn at a reasonable rate, preparing to slow up. Several, however, come around the bend at speed.

Recently my husband had stepped off the pavement when a car sped round the bend with the driver looking right towards oncoming traffic, completely unaware of the pedestrian on his left hand side. This is not the first time this has happened.

I can walk quite quickly, but many folk can’t. For drivers not used to the setup there, there is no warning sign about pedestrians crossing."

We have raised this with the council's road safety team leader requesting warning signage/road markings to make clear to drivers that pedestrians cross at this location.

Getting things done - Blackness Library - an update #dundeewestend

Back in early 2020, Fraser obtained a commitment for Community Payback to repaint the railings of Blackness Library which are in a really poor state.    Unfortunately the COVID pandemic at the time resulted in this work not taking place

Michael was photographed at the railings recently and - as the photos indicate - the need for work to repaint the railings is now urgent.

We have therefore taken up this matter again with the City Council and will keep residents updated on progress.

Proposal for a Logie 20mph speed limit #dundeewestend

Residents will be aware that we have long campaigned for - at the request of residents - a lower speed limit in the Logie estate, where roads are very narrow and there is a large population of elderly people, particularly on the north side of the estate where the sheltered housing is.

Fraser raised this at the council's former City Development Committee some time ago and this was agreed as a future 20mph project.

The City Council will shortly be consulting on a proposed new 20mph which is rather larger than Logie itself.

Please see the proposed public notice which will be promoted shortly as part of the consultation exercise on the proposal.

The list of affected streets is highlighted as part of this public notice :

Getting things done – postal deliveries in the Ancrum Drive area - an update #dundeewestend

Residents will recall that we recently highlighted concerns from residents about irregular/no delivery of post in Ancrum Drive and concerns that there may be no regular postal delivery worker for this round.

We raised this with the Public Affairs Team at Royal Mail HQ and have now received feedback from its Senior Public Affairs Manager as follows :

"I have spoken with the Customer Operations Lead who is responsible for the DD2 postcode area.

They confirmed that mail deliveries to addresses on Ancrum Drive are taking place six days a week when there is mail to delivery – this has been the case for last few weeks.

If this is not possible mail will be delivered the next working day."

We have asked the residents who raised this to let us know if there are any further difficulties with deliveries in the coming weeks.

Separately, we have raised with Royal Mail concerns about the reliability of postal deliveries in part of Blackness Avenue, following concerns raised with us by residents.

Crossings at Ancrum Road and Logie Street #dundeewestend

The pedestrian crossing at Ancrum Road outside Ancrum Road has unfortunately been out of action for a short period following - firstly - a vehicle driving into one of the poles and demolishing it - secondly - the urban traffic control team working really fast to replace that pole the following day, then - thirdly and amazingly - another vehicle demolishing the other pole in an unrelated accident the following day.

As the crossing was over 20 years old, the decision was taken to replace the crossing with a new state-of-the-art one and we asked the urban traffic control team's assistant engineer on Friday about progress with installation and were advised as follows :

"The new crossing was commissioned on Tuesday afternoon and was signed over to us this morning.

My colleague attended site with the signal company and carried out the acceptance tests, everything was working as expected."

We both had a visit yesterday and were pleased to see the new crossing now operational - see photo of Fraser at the crossing - below.

As parents and carers of the pupils at Ancrum Road Primary School are aware, the school crossing patroller (SCP) at the Logie Street junction with Ancrum Road has been missing due to a personnel matter, which we understand should soon be resolved.

We are very concerned - as are parents and carers - about the lack of the SCP at such a busy crossing and have been in regular contact with Tayside Contracts (who run the SCP service) about this. We were also advised on Friday by the Facilities Business Manager as follows :

"Thanks for your further email regarding SCP cover at Ancrum PS. I have spoken with members of the area facilities management team this morning who have confirmed that we have a couple of new recruits who are pending PVG Scheme Membership.

As soon as scheme membership is confirmed and start date agreed the plan is to review resource allocation to facilitate full cover at Ancrum PS at the very earliest opportunity.

I am sorry that I cannot be more specific at this point, but you will appreciate that a few things need to fall into place before there can be a firm commitment for cover."
