These steps at the far west end of Pentland Avenue (up to Pentland Crescent) are badly in need of replacement as they are badly deteriorated.

Residents asked us to raise this with the City Council and the capital programme team leader responded helpfully as follows :

"We are currently working with our colleagues in the engineers team to look at a step replacement project in the area.

In the interim, Construction Repairs and Maintenance will be carrying out repairs to these steps."

Blackness Road (near Glenagnes Road) – temporary traffic lights from Tuesday 21 October for one week for Scottish and Southern Energy Network work.

Forthcoming Roadworks

Riverside Avenue and Dykes of Gray Road – closed each evening between 7.00pm and 7.00am only commencing Monday 3 November until Saturday 8 November and from Monday 10 November to Saturday 15 November for carriageway resurfacing works.  Areas affected are:

• Riverside Avenue from its junction with Kingsway/Swallow Roundabout for a distance of 500 metres or thereby in a southerly direction to its junction with Apollo Way; and

• Dykes of Gray Road for a distance of 100 metres or thereby in a northerly direction from its junction with Kingsway/Swallow Roundabout.

Annfield Road (Hawkhill Medical Centre entrance to Annfield Row) – closed on Wednesday 12 November (9.00am to midnight) for Scottish Water work.

TOGS Christmas initiative from Blackness Fire Station #dundeewestend

Blackness Road Community Fire Station has a partnership with TOGS, the local Dundee-based charity, to support families in need.      TOGS provides essential items such as clothing, toiletries, and equipment to families year-round, assisting children from pre-birth through to 18 years of age.

With winter approaching, the fire station will be on collecting warm clothing for distribution to those in need within our local communities.    TOGS has highlighted a particular gap in support for older teens, especially with regard to toiletries for this age group.    As such, we are encouraging donations of both warm clothing and toiletries, with an emphasis on items suitable for older children and teenagers.

Collection Details:

• Collection Point: Blackness Road Community Fire Station

• Donation Period: Now until the end of November 2025

All collected items will be delivered to TOGS at their Family Day event in early December.   Many thanks!

Getting things done - Perth Road #dundeewestend

Residents have highlighted to us that the vehicle activated 30mph sign on Perth Road near Clovis Duveau Drive is not functioning properly.

We asked the council's traffic and road safety team if it was aware of tis and if it could be repaired or replaced and have received the following helpful response :

"Yes, the Traffic & Road Safety Team is aware of the speed-activated sign at this location. Unfortunately, the unit is beyond repair and will not be replaced.

However, the Council does intend to install MVAS (Mobile Vehicle Activated Signs) at this site in the future, subject to resource availability. 

These signs are deployed temporarily across various locations in the city and rotated periodically, as their effectiveness tends to reduce over time as drivers become familiar with them. 

Please note that MVAS are advisory in nature and do not replace formal speed enforcement, which remains the responsibility of Police Scotland."

Tea and Toast on Thursdays! #dundeewestend

With thanks to volunteers from Dundee Westgait Church, there's Tea and Toast at the West End Campus on Thursday mornings.

The volunteers welcome any parents or carers of pupils at St Joseph’s RC and Victoria Primary Schools and Balgay Hill Nursery School between 9am and 10.15am each Thursday in the primary schools' hall.

It is a great chance to meet other parents/carers and have a chat.

Getting things done - Ancrum Place #dundeewestend

We recently received complaints that the roadway at the entrance to Ancrum Place at the junction with Ancrum Drive was badly deteriorated.

We raised this with the roads maintenance partnership and have been advised :

"The roads inspector has raised a Category 3 repair for this with a timescale for completion of thirty working days or sooner."

Swallow Roundabout - a further update #dundeewestend

As residents will be aware, we had called for some time for the proposals to improve the Swallow Roundabout arising out of the safety audit to be implemented and this was originally to have happened at the end of August.

However, the Western Gateway housing developer Springfield, who has overall responsibility for the roundabout changes, did not obtain necessary permissions in time and we have now received the following update from the company :

"We have had confirmation that all required permissions and permits are in place to carry out the remedial items at the Swallow Roundabout. This includes changes to the lane markings and updated signage.

These items, along with remedial surfacing work, will be carried out over a period of two weeks starting 3rd November. This is the earliest date that the various contractors required for these works are all available.

As before, the work will take place overnight, between the hours of 7pm and 7am, to ensure minimal disruption. Dykes of Gray Road and Riverside Avenue will be closed during these hours with diversion routes clearly signposted.

There will not be any work taking place at the Swallow Roundabout until w/c 3rd November."

Community based adult learning new directory

Community based adult learning takes place in community settings across the city, is for anyone over the age of 16 who has left school and tends to focus on informal learning, social activities and adult education provision.

The activities in this new directory of community based adult learning are categorised into four main levels:

Stage 1: Engagement (unstructured, drop-in, variable support)

Stage 2: Starter (SCQF 2-3, high support)

Stage 3: Mid-level (SCQF 4-6, medium support)

Stage 4: Upper-Level (SCQF 7+, low support)

Temporary Traffic Order - Tait's Lane

From the City Council :

Dundee City Council proposes to make an Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 for the purpose of facilitating Scottish Water mains repair works.

The Order is expected to be in force for 10 days from 15 October 2025. Its maximum duration in terms of the Act is eighteen months.

The effect of the Order is to prohibit temporarily all vehicular traffic in Tait’s Lane from its junction with Hawkhill to number 6 Tait’s Lane.

An alternative route will be available via Hawkhill, Peddie Street, Corso Street and Tait’s Lane.

Temporary Traffic Order - Blackness Road

THE ROAD TRAFFIC REGULATION ACT 1984 - SECTION 14(1)

THE DUNDEE CITY COUNCIL AS TRAFFIC AUTHORITY being satisfied that traffic on the road should be prohibited by reason of lining and jointing works being carried out HEREBY PROHIBIT the driving of any vehicle in Blackness Road , Dundee.

The works will be carried out in two separate phases.

Phase 1 – Balgay Road to Glenagnes Road

Phase 2 – Glenagnes Road to Peddie Street

This notice comes into effect on Monday 13th October 2025 for five working days.

Pedestrian thoroughfare will be maintained.

Vehicular access for residents will be maintained where possible.

Residents recently pointed out that a directional sign had been placed over the 10mph speed limit sign at the Balgay Park Glamis Road entrance - see photo.

Getting things done - Pentland Avenue – an update #dundeewestend

Residents will recall that we recently highlighted that the wall in Pentland Avenue - near City Road junction - in front of housing and adjacent to the public pavement was requiring repair.

We were promised repairs and are pleased to report this has now taken place.
